The Definition:
The IP ratings (an abbreviation for International Protection ratings) are a two-numbered representation for protection against solids and water. The first digit represents the protection rating against certain solid foreign objects (such as dust) while the second digit is the actual protection against water.
Understanding IP rating
The IP rating (Ingress Protection) is an internationally recognized method utilized to describe and measure the level of protection of equipments, electrical appliances against water and other technical components. For enclosures, the emblematic “waterproof” IP ratings include IP55,IP65,IP66 enclosures.
although we do not recommend IP66 enclosures for applications such as UPS, Battery, Switches, Power Supplies, rectifiers Etc. as all such equipment generate heat inside the cabinet and the country like India where temperature touches almost 45-47 degree Celsius we can imagine the temperature inside the cabinet would be 4-5 degree higher than outside and due to achieving the compliance of IP66 manufacturers do not keep provision of air vent or heat dissipation vent in the cabinet which cause shorter life span of equipments and issues like hanging,heating,malfunctioning arise most of the time unless those doesn’t meet industrial grade.
